no yer not
country is no different than ALL OTHER genres of music:
some is unbelievably crappy

some has mass popular appeal
and is therefore pretty damn crappy
tons of it is just mediocre
and some is fantastic

just like it is with rock music

when I go for "country" music
I tend to either like the stuff that leans toward country-rock
or I like the stuff that tends toward bluegrass

blue grass and appalachian music is basically just the scotch-irish folk
music that continued to evolve in america
when we came over here

I like some johnny cash
and I LOVE almost everything roger miller ever did

wasn't born to follow--The Byrds
california 1969 country-rock psychedelic Faery music

Oh Id rather go and journey
Where the diamond crescents glowing and
Run across the valley
Beneath the sacred mountain
And wander through the forest
Where the trees have leaves of prisms
That break the light in colors
That no-one knows the names of
And when its time Ill go and wait
Beside a legendary fountain
Till I see your form reflected
In its clear and jeweled waters
And if you think Im ready
You may lead me to the chasm
Where the rivers of our vision
Flow into one another
I will watch her dive beneath
The white cascading waters
She may beg she may plead
She may argue with her logic
And then mention all the things Ill lose
That really have no value
In the end she will surely know
I wasnt born to follow

I have a friend who's dad used to be in The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
and he says that when he was in that band--they had the comedian
Steve Martin in the band
BEFORE he became a comedian
and he played banjo
here you see it is true
