This Weekend in the Concert Vault

Hello, and another happy Friday to you all!

For this week's showcased Rewind concert, we're recommending the crystal-clear Record Plant session of a musician's musician, Ry Cooder. It's the perfect concert to get you through your last day of work this week.

We're also rolling out some real classics today that you simply must not miss! The Allman Brothers Band from Hollywood in 1972; one of our earliest recordings from Bill Graham's archive, a Jefferson Airplane concert from Winterland in 1966; a rowdy Kinks show, complete with horn section, from Boston in '72; and, lastly, the mellow tones of the vibraphone from Gary Burton in 1978.

If you can stop listening to these gems by the beginning of next week, check out Tilly and the Wall from the Noise Pop festival earlier this year. If you haven't heard of them yet, we can assure you that tap dancing pop tunes never sounded so good.

Thanks, and enjoy!

This Weekend in the Concert Vault

Friends, this week we here at the Vault were extremely saddened to hear about the passing of Richard Wright. As keyboardist for Pink Floyd, his layered texture and surrealistic tones helped define their sound. To celebrate his life, we're featuring a Pink Floyd set from 1977 that includes Wish You Were Here performed in its entirety. Give a listen, and hear for yourself what we've lost.

We're also showcasing separate interviews with Roger Waters and David Gilmour recorded in 1984 when both were beginning solo tours. Unsurprisingly, both focus on a potential Pink Floyd reunion.

To round out the weekend, we've got some smoking guitar work by Johnny Winter at the 10-year Woodstock anniversary, an early set from Jefferson Airplane, and a set from perennial 80's opening blues rock act, The Jon Butcher Axis. Also, check out a theatrical set from Meat Loaf recorded a month after his breakthrough Bat Out of Hell was released.

And be sure to check back next Monday from the witty urban lyricist John Darnielle as we feature an 18-song Noise Pop set from his band The Mountain Goats as the featured download.

Until then, have a great weekend.
