What's up with this "cross the ponders?"
Oct 15 12:09 PM US/Eastern
Falling numbers of state dentists in England has led to some people taking extreme measures, including extracting their own teeth, according to a new study released Monday.
Others have used superglue to stick crowns back on, rather than stumping up for private treatment, said the study. One person spoke of carrying out 14 separate extractions on himself with pliers.
More typically, a lack of publicly-funded dentists means that growing numbers go private: 78 percent of private patients said they were there because they could not find a National Health Service (NHS) dentist, and only 15 percent because of better treatment.
"This is an uncomfortable read for all of us, and poses serious questions to politicians from patients," said Sharon Grant of the Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health.
Overall, six percent of patients had resorted to self-treatment, according to the survey of 5,000 patients in England, which found that one in five had decided against dental work because of the cost.
One researcher involved in compiling the study -- carried out by members of England's Patient and Public Involvement Forums -- came across three people in one morning who had pulled out teeth themselves.
Dentists are also concerned about the trend.
Fifty-eight percent said new dentists' contracts introduced last year had made the quality of care worse, while 84 percent thought they had failed to make it easier for patients to find care.
Almost half of all dentists -- 45 percent -- said they no longer take NHS patients, while 41 percent said they had an "excessive" workload. Twenty-nine percent said their clinic had problems recruiting or retaining dentists.
"These findings indicate that the NHS dental system is letting many patients down very badly," said Grant.
"It appears many are being forced to go private because they don't want to lose their current trusted and respected dentist or because they just can't find a local NHS dentist." _________________ "You know nothing of hell!"

i saw a documentary on cuban hospitals
and it's a nightmare
people laying in rat infested hallways
covered in flies
in the 115 degree heat
for days
sorta like the veterans hospitals in america
people have to supply their own medicine from miami if they have relatives there
doctors in canada send one in five patients to america
that's their safety valve for deplenished services _________________

Talk about great minds running in the same track.....
Last week at work I sent an email to my fellow vets at work expressing my thought that one of the lesser known VA benefits was that even with Jack "Doctor Death" Kevorkian out of business now, we could always check into a VA hospital. _________________ "You know nothing of hell!"

I had no decent service from my new dentist.
I had to have a filling, and I hate them. I was a bit scared.
He said is there anything wrong? I was like yeah, I don't like fillings..
Then he shouted , 'welcome to the house of pain!!' and him and the assistant started laughing at me ...
Oh, yeah, scare me some more!
I went back to my old dentistry recently, but it's no better, to be honest.. _________________

Good point-Geezer!
The Vet hospitals are the one part of American health care
that is COMPLETELY Government
and it's the WORST!
why the HELL would America want to make it ALL that way?

HEN
do you have a long waiting period to go to a dentist for little things like fillings?
or do you JUST WALK IN THE DOOR
like here?
(well, they like it if you make an appointment, the day before) _________________

we have a system here, where you should be allowed to go into any Denstist, for emergency treatment, but I can usually get seen within a day, and Its pretty cheap too. The problem is, people need to keep regular visits or they remove you from the List. |

I just heard a program on the radio where a person was reporting about going into an emergency room, in Canada
and there were people on stretchers who had been waiting
there in the rooms and the halls FOR FIVE DAYS
just to see a doctor
and cancer deaths are way higher than in america
because EVERYONE has to wait MONTHS for treatment
MY MOTHER AND FATHER AND BROTHER ALL THREE SURVIVED CANCER UNDER THIS AMERICAN SYSTEM
WHICH MEANS I HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF GETTING IT
(AND MY BROTHER WAS FLAT BROKE)
AND IF THEY HAD HAD TO WAIT MONTHS FOR THE TREATMENT TO EVEN BEGIN
THEY WOULD ALL THREE BE DEAD NOW
SOCIALISM
IS FUNDAMENTALLY INNEFICIENT _________________
