serious bummer. I feel like I lost a very close friend even though I never met the man. I've loved his music for so long now, it just seems a part of me. I'm very sorry to hear this news. Hopefully he didn't suffer long with his cancer. I pray he found The Lord before he went. I'd like to meet him someday.

yeah
in many ways, he was always sorta my favorite guy in the band

probably for the same reasons
and in the same way george was my favorite beatle
because all the other guys were getting the most attention, and he was
always the under-rated, under-appreciated, mysterious one

people used to say I looked like him--especially in that picture that was
on that dark side poster

people say I sometimes used to come up with that sly weird sideways look

upper left
apparently, i get that look
a lot

***************

i remember, when I saw them two nights in a row
in sept 1972, at winterland
both nights, you never saw richard wright
except you saw the back of his head, as they walked off-stage
for one second, at the end of the show Mad Laughing

because, when they first walked on-stage, the lights were down
and during the show, he was surrounded by a big semi-circular wall of keyboards and synthesizers and shit Laughing

dude, i'm so fucking OLD! Shocked Mad Evil or Very Mad

Laughing

TELL me about it!

I was a fan ever since that night in 1967 when I first heard SEE EMILY PLAY come on the radio
hiding under the covers with the little transister radio
and I said to myself: "Who the hell are THESE guys?" Shocked

that was when I was 13

and THEN they were my favorite band all through the formative adolescent years
they were MY band
and only a small cadre of floyd freaks even KNEW about them, until dark side went monster
EMILY got a bunch of airplay
and then they NEVER got on the radio
till ONE OF THESE DAYS, off MEDDLE
then dark side went monster
but between those years they were a cult band
and I was one of the FEW cult members, in my high school

where the hell YOU been? Laughing

Another sad day in the music world...I cant beleive he is gone.I never knew he was that ill.Cancer..only God knows how much I hate that word.It took my husband with out
grace or ANY mercy..And I can imagine and see the hatred Ric's family feel for Ric dying at the hands of cancer.
May Ric forever live in the hearts of his millions of fans and be at peace.
What a terrible loss for all who loved and enjoyed his contribution to the greatest band
in the world!
Cancer...we must find a cure....... Crying or Very sad

Hey everyone
Yes, it is really sad.
Apparently, he had only been battling Cancer a short while. Sad

Poor Ric ..

Crying or Very sad It's so, so sad.

Cancer is a fucking evil.

It just takes anyone randomly; with no reasons, or meanings.

I honestly hoped
that Pink Floyd would have got back together, perhaps; for a reunion tour. Thank God they did Live 8. Built some bridges. Those were good times..

For me he was 60% of the REAL pink Floyd.

He so very often would set the tone for the song with the opening bars. Then yield to Dave and fad into the background until it was his turn again to do the heavy lifting.

I don't recall another band where 2 players were so willing to give each other the stage, both leads in their own right, equally talented, equally matched, both leaders in their field.

My start date with Floyd is July 14th, 1968. I paid about $7.50 to see them and The Who in a small place that held maybe 1000 or 500 people. They played Set The Controls and I was hooked for life. Saw them 2 years later again in Seattle, slightly larger place, maybe 1500-2000 seats. Killer each time. Richard had control of a joystick that would make sounds go all around you. The concerts started with a black stage, then a door would creak open. Steps would go from the stage down the wall to my right, across the wall behind me, down the wall to my left back to the stage. The door would creak open again, slam shut, and Richard started the show with the spacey riffs of Astronomy Domine.

Never again. Crying or Very sad Sad Crying or Very sad Sad Crying or Very sad Sad Crying or Very sad Sad Crying or Very sad Sad

Wow!
the last time I saw them (third time)
they started off with Astronomy Domine Shocked

I believe that was 1995
in the Oakland Colosseum

i saw them two nights in a row
before that
long before that

the first night I saw them, in the winterland ballroom,
in san francisco
sept '72
their encore was set the controls
that next night, their encore was saucerful of secrets
and that was the last time the band ever played that song live Shocked

both times the songs sounded just like off ummagumma
but, yes, it was swirling all around you

I can calculate the first time i heard them
because Piper at the gates of dawn came out in dec, 1967
so, that musta been when SEE EMILY PLAY hit the radio
I was 13
and I thought: Surprised "Who the hell are THESE guys?"

and, when I heard the radio play it the second time
I thought:
Surprised "Wow! This is that weird assed song with the strange sounds! They played it again"

Laughing THAT was Rick
