1973: Phil Kaufman, manager of the recently-deceased country-rock singer Gram Parsons, is fined $300 for stealing the singer's body from the Los Angeles International Airport (where it was to be shipped to a Louisiana funeral home on the wishes of his estranged stepfather), then driving out to the desert instead with Gram's close friend Michael Martin, cremating Parsons, and scattering his ashes near the Joshua Tree National Monument in Twentynine Palms, CA, a favorite spot of the singer. Both men claim the cremation was Parsons' last wish.

1979: Paul Simon kicks off his latest British tour at London's Hammersmith Odeon by offering to buy everyone in the audience a drink. The tab comes to about $2,000.

1980: After the death of drummer John Bonham, the remaining members of Led Zeppelin meet on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands, along with manager Peter Grant, to decide what to do next. All four men agree the band would simply not be the same without Bonham, and decide to split up

I was watching a show about "the 27 club" .. a club ya don't want to be in.

they tell about who all died at that age:
Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim, Morrison and
they warn Amy Winehouse to "watch out"!
She'll be 27 in 2 more years.

I'm just trying to get past 54

I knew an insurance salesman, once, who said that, actuarily, it's real common for men to have fatal heart attacks at 54

he said if you miss the big 54 barrier
you have a good chance of going on to 80 or 100

but, for some reason, 54 catches a bunch of males

i just have three more months to go Smile

*************************

Robert Palmer died of a heart attack
at 54
in sept 2003

i saw him live, once, in 1982

he was just starting to get famous

i think he had one song, at that time, that had gotten some radio play
"yer gonna get what's comin'"

i think that was the name of the song

he REALLY got famous when he did that "addicted to love" video
with all those skinny models in white-face mime make-up
and slinky black micro-mini skirts
pretending, BADLY, like they were playing instruments in a band, behind him

remember that?

the drummer chick was especially hilarious Laughing

i remember she would OCCASSIONALLY lift a drumstick Laughing
