Laughing valuable tip! Cool
OK
I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TRUE OF ALL DOLLAR STORES
but there is a chain, (at least here), here in Idaho, called HONK'S 1.05 STORE
where EVERYTHING is $1.05
and I don't know if it's a nationwide chain
but if not
it probably will be soon

for this amount one can buy a 4-pack of double A batteries
or a 4-pack of the D-cell-sized standard large flashlight type batteries
(and maybe other sizes--these are the two I use most)

**********

in regular grocery stores it's much more
and in a convenience store you'd pay 3.65
or 3.95 or something!
FOR A 2-PACK! Confused

when I tell everyone this, they say they must be older, defective, off-brand batches and it'd be not worth it

but no
they are Panasonic and Duracel and Ever-ready brands! Shocked
and they are stamped: "use by 2010"
and they are just as strong, and last just as long, as any batteries i've ever bought!

but this is why:
the packaging is printed in Spanish
and they apparently were originally meant to be sold in Mexico
(and no-matter where they are meant to be sold
they are probaby all made in China--even the English packaged ones)
and someone has bought huge amounts of them and shipped them up here to be sold in these Honk's $1.05 stores!

if you use a lot of batteries
and you can find some store
like Honk's
these are perfectly fine batteries
THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME BATTERIES
the companies just know they can get stupid fat rich Americans to pay four times as much up here!
Confused Rolling Eyes
and you can save a wheelbarrel of money every year

yup
just went to a standard grocery store today
(Albertsons)
and a 4-pak of either the AA
or D sized batteries
is $3.99

i saw someone
in line in front of me
the other day
in a convenience store
pay $3.69 for a two pack of Ds

same exact batteries
different language on the packaging Confused Rolling Eyes

NO!
well--the joke is that name-brand battery companies sell their batteries in mexico for one price
and, at the same time, sell the same exact batteries in America for multitudes higher prices
I have one of these HONKS $1.05 stores right across the street from my house
so i have batteries i bought there for $1.05, for a 4-pak, in my flashlights RIGHT NOW
and they work as well
and as long
as the exact same brand batteries that cost $3.99 for a 4-pak at the Albertsons grocery store a few blocks away Shocked
the only difference is that the batteries from the dollar store have packaging written in spanish

I don't know if HONKS dollar stores are a nation-wide chain
or a world-wide chain
or just something in Idaho
but
they probably aren't the only dollar stores that could get the same deal they got
anybody could order wads of spanish language packaged batteries
and ship them up here from mexico
sell them for a dollar a 4-pak
and still make money

so
EVERYONE
PLEASE
go check out a dollar store and see what they charge for batteries
and then let me know
i'd like to know how widespread this is

thanks

Wow!
Confused
wait...
are you kidding?
the whole point of a "dollar store"
is they just get things with misprints in the labels
small defects
or stock over-runs
and sell them for a dollar

you don't mean CONVENIENCE store do you?

was that 3.95 for a two-pak or a four-pak?
in our dollar-store, here, they sell the four-pak for $1.05 (any size battery)
the regular big grocery stores sell the four pak for $3.99

and the convenience stores sell the TWO-PAK for $3.65

maybe it's just a deal the owners of THIS chain figured out

maybe wanna call around to all the different dollar stores in yer town

wow!
so far, these
(spanish language printed name brands like panasonic and duracel)
(for $1.05)
have always been four-paks
but, two days ago, i went in there, and they had a bunch of SIX-PAKS of the KODAK ALKALINE AAs
still for $1.05 Shocked
they seem to work fine

these aren't even printed in spanish
so maybe my theory
on how and where they are getting these
is wrong
or maybe the theory was right for the ones printed in spanish
(that they ship them up from mexico)
but they can also get others some other way
all i know is
they are selling these all for $1.05
the package sez it was printed in 2007
and it says "use by dec 2011" on it
so they aren't old weak batteries

i do notice they say "originally made for kodak"
and then they show a larger brand name called "ener G" on the label
and the actual batteries have the words: "authorized resale only" printed on them

this seems to support the theory that kodak
and other brands, also
know they can sell tons of batteries for four to six times as much
in regular stores
but they also are willing to sell EVEN MORE batteries
(the exact SAME batteries) in dollar stores

six, perfectly fine, name brand batteries for a buck.five!
how can you beat that?

someone tell me if they can find any other dollar store with cheap batteries like this
i don't see how it could only be my store

i'm usually not THAT lucky Laughing

maybe all the battery companies figure they are going to miss out on
their market share of some fairly large dollar store market
if they don't all sell some of their batteries in those kinda stores
maybe they figure most people who buy the batteries in regular stores
will ALWAYS buy their batteries in regular stores
and they can't really expand that market
but if they sell some batteries in dollar stores
that's that many more batteries that they wouldn't sell otherwise

that--and the mexico factor- seems to be the only thing that makes sense
till someone comes up with some other theories

the whole thing works for me
i'm getting new, strong, Kodak, AA Alkaline batteries for 17.5 cents each, now Cool
(rather than up to a dollar each
in other stores)

YES....I buy all my batteries at the dollar store also.
Same product as if you buy them any where else.
It's the best deal in town!
How can you argue about brand names..!
Even soap and other cleaning products with brand
names can be had for a buck.
Hell..why pay more .

cool
so i'm not the only one

yeah
Strobe's right
I hardly ever went into a dollar store until one moved in right across the street from me
just never thought about it
I always just go to the store that's closest
but there's tons of stuff a person has to buy
where the brand name doesn't matter a hoot
like soap and shampoo and all kindza things...
sure
you might have some favorite brand of shaving cream, or mouthwash or paper towels
but if you could get a slightly different brand for a dollar
instead of $3.50
how much worse, or better, can one damn paper towel be, than another? Confused
why pay more?

I was just baffled that batteries would be in dollar stores
i always thought that anything that was in a dollar store
was there because there was something wrong with it

but, apparently, not necessarily

I guess any theory about batteries would apply to any other product
if you have a production over-run
just send everything to the dollar stores
if you are already selling as much of yer shit as you possibly can
in the regular stores
why miss out of yer share of the dollar store market?
less profit per item sold
is still SOME profit you weren't going to get anyway

I WILL say---some of the stuff IS crap! Laughing

I bought an extension cord
and it didn't work at all
so i took it back and got another one
and it worked for one or two days
and then crapped out
and
by that time
i had thrown the damn receipt away
so THAT whole shipment of extension cords musta been defective

but so far, any batteries i've gotten there work fine
just like batteries from anywhere else

There's a Dollar General right up my street.

yeah
if it isn't something like cigarettes
where only one brand tastes correct to you
and no other brand will do

a person could find most of the everyday things they usually buy
in dollar stores
thus saving about 75%, average, on all yer normal neccessity purchases
i just never expected batteries

they sell everything in those stores
headphones for a dollar Shocked
cat food
bread
medicines and pain killers
vitamins
light bulbs
flashligfhts
paks of softdrinks
cookies and candy
tools
toys
zillions of kindza soap and toothpaste and shampoo
household cleansers
and stuff
cloth
gift cards
candles

all for a dollar

you just gotta accept whatever brand they have, in stock, that day

there may be SOME difference between one brand of amonia
and another

but whatever it is
i'll take my chances on the one that costs one dollar
rather than $3.65 Confused
